SEAL
® Technology |
Bloom Seal ®
process is a unique technology to pack a variety of formulations.
|
|
Fluorination Theory |
The Bloom Seal ®
process is based on the formation of a fluorocarbon barrier layer on
the polymer surface. The basic reaction, which occurs with HDPE, is
a substitution of Fluorine, in place of hydrogen atoms on the polymer
backbone as shown in the Figure 1.

The Bloom
Seal ® barrier is effective in minimizing
the permeability of non-polar solvents through a polymer surface. Since
Bloom
Seal ® modifies only those polymer
molecules near the surface, there is no measurable change in the mechanical
properties such as tensile strength and impact resistance.
The Figure 2A shows untreated HDPE container wall resulting in
evaporation and product weight loss.

Seal ® container wall with no evaporation
and product weight loss.
